Foggy Mountain Top

Just got back from a trip to the NC mountains over the weekend. I really hadn't planned on a photo excursion until Sunday when a cold front rolled in, bringing thick clouds and fog with it. Good thing I had the ol' point and shoot with me to capture the magic. Couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Hipstamatic

I've been really enjoying playing around with the Hipstamatic iPhone app recently. Although it doesn't retain the original image or let you apply effects to existing images [update: check out SwankoLab - from the same developers - for applying darkroom effects to existing images], the unpredictable results on the fly have been great. The ability to choose film, lens, and flash type combinations allows for achieving a good variety of great lomo effects. You can buy new "packages" of film, lenses, and flashes straight from the app, but I haven't made it past the ones that come with the installation. At $1.99 it's a great deal for vintage photo (and modern technology) enthusiasts. Highly recommended.

Greensboro Fest 2009

The organizers of this year's Greensboro Fest contacted me asking if I could help them out and design a poster/flyer for the upcoming music festival. Greensboro Fest is, quoted from their myspace page, a "4-day free music festival based in Greensboro, North Carolina. We celebrate bands and musicians who currently hold residence in our lovely city." As a fellow musician from Greensboro, I happily accepted in an effort to help promote the local music scene and the bands from the area.

The final graphic came together fairly quickly, using a combination of photography, type, and other visual elements to (hopefully) convey the idea of eclectic musical styles converging on one location. This flyer is promoting the first show of the event. If any of you are around the Greensboro, NC area from October 15-18, be sure to check out the festival.

Canon AE-1

I thought I'd repost some photos I took from a trip earlier this year to Virginia Beach, VA. These were all shot with my Canon AE-1 with ISO800 film and no post-processing. You just can't fake that great high-speed film grain in Photoshop.
